CULASI is well-known for its historical and tourist spots. The majestic Mt.

Madja-as, a 2,117 meter high above sea level adjacent to 3 island barangays

which are potential to tourist attractions. It is a home to exotic Cloud Rat, the

gray variety with bushy tail-the size of a rabbit but a visage of a rat which is

not found anywhere in the world but in the ranges of Mt. Madja-as. There are

potential tourist spots namely Mt. Madja-as, Mararison, Batbatan, Manigning,

Lipata-Lamputong-Caridad beaches, Malacanang, Flores and Guintongaban

River. Mararison and Guintongaban River are Eco-tourisn areas. Mararison is

4km. Off the coast of the municipality or is a 20 minutes ride to reach the

island by pumpboat. Batbatan island is 17 km. Or it takes 1 hour and 30

minutes ride to reach the island by pumpboat from the Pobalcion proper.

Maningning island takes 3 hours and 30 minutes ride or 37 km. Off the coast of

the municipality. It has a lighthouse built in 1906 with 87 steps or it is 90 feet

high. This serves as a landmark. The soil type is beach sand which is best for

tourism. Mararison is famous for its clear pebbled white sands, coral reefs and

blue teeming water with various kind of fish. It is often visited by

excursionists/visitors particularly during summer vacation. Maningning is

famous for its hammerhead shark. Other attractions offer visitors opportunities

to interesting view of the municipality's history. Beautiful beaches, caves, falls,

mountain ranges, the cultural heritage and town festivals.

 

 
CULASI speaks the Kinaray-a language. Local dialect inflection changes are

discernible in the mountain barangays which has a spaced, lazy inflection and

in the Batbatan and Maningning Islands with a rapid inflection and high

pitched punctuations known as "Tangay". The song "Dandansoy" from the

phrase "ang daan nga dalan gin usoy" (the old road was traced) was

composed by Fortunata Magsipoc, a Culasina. Various indigenous songs and

dances abound in the barangays waiting for formal recording and chronicling.

There are two Annual Fiestas: 1. The Municipal and Religious Fiesta celebrated

every 19th and 20th of October participated in by almost all religious sects in

the municipality is geared towards spiritual retrenchment and a celebration of

the 1898 First Flag Hoisting in Panay island done in front of the "Casa

Govierno." 2. The Foundation Day Commemoration- celebrated since 1970's.

Held every 1st Saturday of March. A colorful celebration enjoyed by the whole

town. Usually features different cultural presentations (dance drama, folk

songs and dances).
